The Food Bank of the Golden Crescent’s Hunger Hero Challenge is a fun, community-wide competition that encourages local groups to come together and make a difference by donating funds, food, and volunteer time.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to strengthen your team’s camaraderie while demonstrating your commitment to fighting hunger in our community. Compete with other teams of similar size for the chance to earn bragging rights- and the title of Hunger Hero Champion!

Collect Financial Donations

Thanks to our ability to purchase food in large, bulk quantities, our cost per pound is significantly lower than what the average shopper would pay. That means your donation stretches further and helps feed more people in our community.

We challenge you and your team to get creative and raise funds however you can—whether it’s a bake sale, office raffle, or maybe even a bowling tournament. Every dollar makes a difference, and every fun idea brings us closer to ending hunger. Let’s see what your team can come up with!

REMEMBER Every $1 donated helps us to provide 8 MEALS!

Check out our A-Z FUNDRAISING GUIDE for some great ideas!

Collect Food Donations

Make a big impact by collecting non-perishable food items at your workplace. Use one of our official collection barrels and encourage employees, customers, or visitors to contribute. Want to take it up a notch? Host a themed event like “Pack the Bus,” “Fill the Police Car,” or “Stuff the Ambulance”—all fun ways to rally the community around a great cause!

Get creative—turn it into a competition between departments, offer prizes for the most donated items, or make it a family-friendly drop-off event with snacks and music. Every can counts!

Check out our MOST NEEDED ITEMS.

Volunteer at the Food Bank

Volunteers are the heart of the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent—we couldn’t do this work without them. When your team volunteers, you're not just giving back—you’re building stronger bonds and making a real impact.

And yes, it’s actually fun! You might help pack boxes for mobile distributions, bag bulk items like rice in our clean room (Bonus: you might get your very own fancy hair net!), or check and sort donations.

Bring your team, family, and friends. Every hour earns you points in the Hunger Hero Challenge and helps fight hunger in our community!

Check our VOLUNTEER PAGE for more information.
