TALKING POINTS

•    Mission: Helping Heal the Hurt of Hunger

Hunger Facts:

  • In their 11-county service area 1 in 5 people struggle with hunger. That equates to nearly 55,000 of our neighbors needing help with food at some point in the year.

  • Many of the families the Food Bank serves have at least one employed adult in the household but still struggle to make ends meet. They often have to choose between paying for food and another necessity like rent, utilities or medication.

Food Distribution:

  • Last year the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent distributed over 8 million pounds of food.

  • The Food Bank of the GOlden Crescent partners with over 70 non-profit agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, and trasitional housing in our community to supply food for distribution to their clients.

  • One in four children in the Food Banks 11-county service area face hunger. The Food Bank of the Golden Crescents' Kids Weekend Meals program helps ensure kids have food to eat over the weekend.

  • Seniors are increasingly vulnerable to facing hunger due to minimal income to spend on food, medicine, rent and other needs. The Food Bank offers a program that provides a monthly food box to seniors who qualify. â€‹

Volunteers:

  • The Food Bank relies on the generous help provided by amazing volunteers. Last year over 680 people chose to lead by example and donate their time at the Food Bank of the Golden Cresent- they donated over 8,600 hours! â€‹
